FACULTY TRAINING

Teresopolis II

In order to implement a school-wide program to the community, those who do the implementing need to be "on-board" and trained. Training the faculty has been a top priority of the EE@EA program since day one. The training started with the P.E. department. A few teachers were sent to an Experiential Education seminar, and came back energized to spread the news.

From there, the training cycle started and started big. In about a year’s time the first group of faculty members was taken off-campus for the introductory session into the pedagogy. A two-person company called Kreativ Aktion taught the weeklong workshop. Their seminar was called "Train the Trainers." This weeklong seminar took place in the town of Teresopolis, and thereby, took on its name. This last year 19 teachers took part in Teresopolis III, and currently over 43% of the staff has been through the initial Teresopolis training.

In addition to the Teresopolis training seminars, Kreativ Aktion also provides two additional workshops. One of these is called Advanced Facilitation and is the next step for those that have been through the "Training the Trainers" workshop. This workshop dives deeper into how this method is brought into the classroom, and able to enhance learning within the school.

The other is for those who want to get more involved with the more physical aspect of the program, the High Ropes. This workshop prepares teachers to safely enable students to challenge themselves on these obstacles, and to facilitate the learning going on during and after the activity.
