Student Interviews
October 23, Canal Futura televised their segment on the mock presidential debate held at Escola Americana on October 10th on Jornal Futura, at 12 noon and again at 5:00 p.m., on channel 32. Students interviewed were Estela Reis, Paloma Yanez and Silvia Scodro, who all did a fantastic job speaking with the reporter.
October 11, the Mock Presidential Debate, with two important Rio de Janeiro Chapters of the American Democratic and Republican Parties, received coverage in two forms of media:
Jornal do Brasil published an article in the Saturday newspaper, in which Angela Steadman and Lidya Gutierrez gave their follow-up viewpoints on the debate; and TV Globo aired a segment on the debate in their midday news program Jornal Hoje. The students who spoke to the TV Globo reporter were Luana Gomes, Carol Machado, Pedro Paulo Ferraz, and José Tadeu Bijos, all of whom were poised and expressed their opinions well.
Before that, on October 9th, the debate was already a highlight on O Globo newspaper.

On June 12, Globo News TV aired an interview with Neise Abreu and our Middle School Mountaineering Club students for a special report on different forms of Physical Education classes in schools, for the program "Atividades". Our students were shown engaged in the climbing wall and ropes course activities, accompanied by Athletics Director Neise Abreu and Teacher Marcelo Cecchi. |
Newspaper articlesOctober 19, in a special section on Education, Jornal do Brasil Revista Domingo featured Escola Americana in a report on the different types of schools in Rio de Janeiro and the educational philosophy of each. Suely Peçanha explained how our school prepares students for success in Brazil as well as to study and live abroad.
October 14, in O Globo’s Megazine, Upper School Portuguese Teacher Fátima Cajueiro was interviewed on the recent changes in the Portuguese language and the implementation of these changes in the classroom. September 30, our Middle School Via Sapientia program was the subject of an article published in the Folha Dirigida. These dynamic, integrated, interactive trips have become a defining moment in our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students' lives as they participate in an experiential learning experience that allows students to realize historical knowledge and its connection to the present, reflect on social issues, and cultivate the joy of learning. |

September 2, the Educação section of the Folha Dirigida newspaper published an informative article about our music program, in view of the law recently passed making music in schools mandatory at all grade levels. In the interview with Elisa França and Suely Peçanha, the reporter highlighted the integration of music into the curriculum at Escola Americana (no other private school is mentioned) and its benefit in the education of the whole child, ramifications in areas other than music itself, etc. Both Suely and Elisa were pictured in addition to Elisa's first grade class in activity. August 14, Folha Dirigida published a note on the art exhibit on China produced by our Upper School Art students, Andrea Mattos and Lúcia Sampaio, mother of two EA students, who generously donated Chinese artifacts and objects of art for embellishing the display. The article added that Escola Americana is one of the few schools that include Visual Arts as part of its high school curriculum. August 9, O Dia newspaper published an article on Olympic sports, including the ones less popular, and how these are incorporated into the physical education classes of schools in Rio. Escola Americana was mentioned for the practice of softball and badminton and our Middle School students were pictured engaged in these two sports. August 6, O Dia newspaper published an article about the stimulus of the Olympic Games and how it is being applied in schools in a number of diverse disciplines. Escola Americana Upper School Art students, under the guidance of Art Teacher Andrea Mattos, were mentioned for developing an art display on the theme of China. June 3, O Globo published an article in the Ecology section of their "Megazine" insert, which reported on our Eighth Grade student project "Troca Verde" with a picture of the exchange of food coupons for recyclable materials in benefit of our service employees. June 2, Jornal Lance! cited our ESL Program in an article on the necessity of the English language in the work field. May 23, the same newspaper mentioned the impressive news of our Senior Class college acceptances in the column UI! by columnist Anna Ramalho. May 25, the Jornal do Brasil Barra newspaper highlighted the expansion of Escola Americana in Barra with quotes from Ms. Suely Peçanha and Ms. Emilia Ferreira and a picture of Ms. Suely in the Barra Preschool Library. |
