Admissions Requirements &
Decisions
|
|
Once the appropriate division's Admissions Committee reviews a
completed application the following decisions are rendered:
Accepted: The applicant is accepted for
admission to Escola Americana and a space is reserved for him/her in a
particular grade level.
Denied: The applicant does not meet
Escola Americana eligibility requirements for admission. Applicants are
denied on the basis of their academic or behavior records, when English
language is not commensurate with the grade to which they are applying
or EARJ does not have a program to meet the child's needs.
Deferred: Deferral is given when the
Admission Committee determines a fair and accurate decision cannot be
made without an on-site interview and/or assessment. A place is
temporarily reserved for the applicant pending testing/screening
conducted on campus. This is common in the following instances: the
candidate lacks current standardized test scores or has scores that
fall below those expected of an Escola Americana student; the
candidate’s academic record suggests that he or she does not have the
necessary English language skills; the candidate has a documented
learning disability that the school's program may not be able to
accommodate. It is important that deferred applicants explore other
educational options in Rio de Janeiro.
Waiting List: When an applicant meets all
requirements but the grade level is full. It is important that
applicants placed on the Wait List explore other educational options in
Rio de Janeiro.
