Admissions Criteria
Escola Americana has developed a priority system that reflects its commitment to serving USA citizens and international families on temporary assignment. Special consideration is also given to siblings of children currently enrolled and children of Escola Americana alumni. With this in mind, the following factors are carefully considered in an admission and placement decision.
- Applicant’s previous academic background, grades, test
scores,
and recommendations - Applicant’s previous behavioral record
- English language ability and family language background
- Mathematical ability
- Space availability in the grade
- The applicant's age
Since English is the language of instruction at Escola
Americana, a strong emphasis is placed on a candidate's English
skills. All students who have studied for three years or
less in an English speaking school and/or whose native language is not
English will be required to take an English as a Second Language (ESL)
proficiency test for placement. The IPT II (Idea Proficiency Test)
assesses reading, writing and oral proficiency in English. The test
results are an important factor in determining acceptance, grade
placement and the level of ESL support that students will receive at
Escola Americana.
Escola Americana's Resource Centers are programmed to assist children
with mild learning disabilities. If your child currently has an IEP
(Individual Educational Plan) or if your child is currently receiving
any special academic support services, please send us complete
documentation along with your child's application, so we can determine
whether we are able to meet your child's needs.
