Of the Escola Americana graduates who choose colleges in Brazil: 48% have enrolled at PUC, 23% at IBMEC, 7% at UniverCidade, 6% at Estacio de Sa, 5% at Gama Filho, 4% at Candido Mendes, 2% at State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), 1% at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and 4% at other universities throughout the country.
DOES EARJ HAVE A CAMPUS IN BARRA DA TIJUCA?
Escola Americana has two campuses - A Nursery through 12th grade
campus in Gávea and a Toddler (2-year-olds) through third grade campus
in Jardim Oceânico (fourth grade in the 2010/11 academic year). Land
for a new facility has been purchased in Santa Mônica Jardins and
Alphaville, residential complexes currently under development on
Avenida das Américas in Barra da Tijuca. The new campus is in the
pre-project stage and will ready in a few years. Escola Americana will
continue to maintain a campus in Zona Sul and in Barra.
WHO IS REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN AND COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE BRAZILIAN DIPLOMA?
Children born in Brazil enter the Brazilian Diploma Program regardless
of the parents’ nationality or how long the family has lived in Brazil
after the child was born. The Brazilian Diploma cannot be waived if the
student was born in Brazil, even if he/she holds another nationality. A
waiver for the Brazilian Diploma can only be obtained for students who
were not born in Brazil.
WHAT ARE SCHOOL HOURS?
In Lower School, the school day starts at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 3:20
p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and at 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday and
Friday. In the Middle and Upper Schools the school day starts at
7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and at
3:00 p.m.
DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA HAVE AN ATHLETIC/ACTIVITY PROGRAM
AFTER SCHOOL FOR THE LOWER SCHOOL?
Yes, Escola Americana offers an after school program with the
following activities typically offered: Soccer, Volleyball, Girls and
Boys Basketball, Olympic Gymnastics, Scrapbooking or Art. The
classes meet twice a week and a monthly fee of R$110.00 and a
registration fee of R$70.00 is charged.
DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA HAVE INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS
TEAMS?
Yes, in the Middle School, EARJ teams travel to compete in girls' and
boys' volleyball, boys' indoor soccer, and boys' and girls'
basketball. In the Upper School Escola Americana teams compete in
girls' and boys' volleyball, girls' and boys' indoor soccer, boys' and
girls' soccer, boys' and girls' softball, and girls' cheerleading.
DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA SERVE LUNCH?
Yes, Escola Americana offers a hot lunch program. The bills
for the lunch service are sent to parents on a monthly basis. Students
may also purchase sandwiches and snacks at two snack bars.
DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA HAVE A BUS SERVICE?
Yes, our buses service the neighborhoods of Ipanema, Leblon, Lagoa,
Jardim Botanico, São Conrado, Barra da Tijuca, Itanhangá, Recreio,
Copacabana, Leme, Flamengo, Catete, Urca, Laranjeiras, and Botafogo.
Fees vary depending on the distance.
DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA HAVE A NURSE?
Yes, Escola Americana has a full-time registered nurse on the Gávea
campus and an agreement with a nearby clinic to treat students in
emergency situations. In Barra, Escola Americana has an agreement

DOES ESCOLA AMERICANA TEACH PORTUGUESE AS A FOREIGN
LANGUAGE?
Yes, Escola Americana teaches Portuguese as a foreign language to
students who are not fluent.
HOW AND WHEN DO I MAKE PAYMENTS?
Please note that once your child is enrolled at Escola Americana, you
will be receiving invoices for January to June, which correspond to the
2nd Semester of the 2009-10 school year. These invoices are sent
electronically or by regular mail and may be paid in any bank. All
families are charged for the entire semester in which they
enroll.
The one-time US$6,500 Capital Fee is due for each child in 1st through
12th grades upon enrollment. Upon request it is payable in 12 equal
installments during the first year of attendance. The Capital Fee is
used to support investments in technology, such as computers or
building renovations. This fee is payable in reais and is based on the
official U.S. dollar rate on the date of enrollment.
