About 3rd Grade

We would like to welcome you and your child to a new school year. We are looking forward to a challenging and interesting time together. We hope our site is clear and if you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Education is team work which involves the child, teacher, administration, parents, and classmates. We have a great group of kids and we are sure this will be a good year.
Every month your child will need to read a book and do a book report. A book suggested for parents is the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. It is available in the Media Center. How about visiting our library with your child to examine what the school has to offer? Your child will be using the home reading log to keep track of all books that have been read.
Please help your child to prepare for spelling tests if he or she is not doing well. All tests that are sent home must be signed and returned to us. Students who do not do homework may be kept in at brunch to catch up. At the most your child will be given 40 minutes of homework a day. On Mondays and Wednesdays your child can receive English, science/social studies, and math homework. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Portuguese homework will be given, with the occasional math sheet. When there is a test in social studies or science your child will be given sufficient notice in order to prepare.
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of signing the agenda. Writing a message in the agenda or sending an e-mail is the most convenient way to communicate with us. Please make sure that your child has set aside time for homework every day. There is nothing better than a good routine.
Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled each semester. Additionally, progress reports and report cards will be sent home each quarter to keep you informed of your child’s progress.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
The Third Grade Teachers
