Brazil and The Five Regions

We started our unit by
locating Brazil and neighboring countries on the map. Then we examined
the five regions of Brazil and talked about the capital, Brasilia, and
other important cities. We located the Rainforest in the North Region
and of course talked about Rio de Janeiro being near the sea and in the
Southeast Region. The children will make a map of all five
regions!
We will be collecting objects from the five regions and doing some
projects and dioramas of the Amazon Forest. |

The culture of Brazil was
discussed through popular folklore stories, Saci Pererê and Iemanjá,
through famous painters like Volpi and Portinari, artists who painted
the "bandeirinhas" (flags) and "cantigas de roda" (popular children's
songs) and composers such as Vila Lobos and the "Trenzinho
Caipira."
