LS News – August 15, 2008 

All LS students, faculty and staff assembled in the Gavea auditorium and in Barra with Ms. Julie Hunt, LS Principal to celebrate the beginning of the school year and welcome new students.

The Portuguese Department organized several activities to celebrate Brazilian Folklore Week. Students learned about legends and myths of Brazil, sang typical songs and saw a puppet show about “Saci Pererê,” the most famous representative of the Brazilian folkore.

Friday, August 22 is Spirit Day! The theme will be announced soon! 

We cordially invite all LS parents to our annual, first semester Open House sessions. This is always a wonderful opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classrooms, meet the teachers and other parents, and learn more about our academic program and daily routines. Please check the Open House dates:

Gavea campus:

August 19 – Grades 4 and 5

August 20 – Grades 2 and 3

August 21 – Kindergarten and Grade 1

August 26 – Preschool

Barra campus:

August 25 – Kindergarten

August 27 – Grades 1 and 2

August 29 – Preschool

Our first LS Principal-Parent Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, September 9, at 8:15 am in the MuseOn. Join us for an informal get together to meet other LS parents, LS principal and assistant principal and to discuss our plans for the new school year. We hope to see you there! 

The After School Program in Barra (Little Gymnasts) is scheduled to begin in September. Parents will be receiving more information about this program in the very near future.
