Ana Melo, Art & CGL Team Leader Ms. Ana Melo, the middle school Visual Art teacher, was born in Recife, Pernambuco, but has lived all of her life in Rio. She received her bachelor’s degree of art education from PUC-RJ and has a master’s degree in education as well. Ms. Ana used to teach visual arts at many Brazilian private and public schools before coming to EARJ.
Ms. Ana has been teaching art at EARJ for 11 years and has held the following positions: middle school visual art teacher, cross grade level team leader, plus a lot of volunteer activities. She chose to teach art because she loves it and she thinks that it allows students to improve their thinking through visual language, which is an expressive way to show who you are. She also coordinates the Destination Imagination program school wide.
In her spare time, Ms. Ana loves to quilt, read, watch movies, and hang out with her friends. She always wants her students to feel comfortable with her and in art class. She feels that her class is her kingdom because it is where she spends so much time and, therefore, feels very comfortable there.

Mr. Michael was also a free-lanced solo player and in a duo in São Paulo. Mr. Michael went back to the UK for a while, but because he missed Brazil so much, he decided to come back.
Mr. Michael worked at EARJ a few days last semester and a few weeks this year. Here at EARJ he holds a job as a Middle and Upper school band and choir teacher. He really loves playing music and being part of the arts, so that is why he chose to teach music. What parents and students should know about his class is that he will teach music for all abilities; it’s also a chance to enjoy playing instruments, to improve one’s skills, to know more about music in general, and to take part in group performances in the school community. He is also involved in the after-school band and choir classes at EARJ.
His hobbies and interests are scuba diving, hiking, rambling, traveling, cinema, reading, playing, singing, music, and playing football. He also enjoys spending time playing games with his sons. He loves going to museums as well.
