Neise Abreu, PhD., Athletic Director, PE Ms. Neíse Gaudencio Abreu was born in Rio de Janeiro. She has lived in Rio de Janeiro her whole life. She went to college at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). She has a PhD in Multicultural Education and a master’s degree in physical education. Before she came to EARJ, she used to be a professor at Gama Filho University.
Ms. Neíse has worked at EARJ for 17 years. And she has held 4 different jobs at EARJ: Athletic Director, P.E. Head, soccer coach and P.E. teacher. She chose this subject area because she believes that we can build better citizens through sports. She says that there is one thing that we should know about her classes - “we respect differences and everybody has something to contribute and to gain from while learning sports activities”. She holds sports tournaments and adventure programs. She enjoys teaching a lot!
Ms. Neíse also has some time to enjoy her hobbies and interests, that is, beach volleyball, going to movies and spending time with her family.

Bernardo Pedro Mr. Bernardo teaches P.E. for the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, but has already lived in Petrópolis, Botucatu-SP, Orlando - Florida, and Kansas City. He graduated at UERJ and is a licensed P.E. teacher.
Before Mr. Bernardo came to EARJ, he was a basketball coach and taught at Brazilian and international schools. He has worked here at EARJ for two years as a P.E. teacher, advisor and bullying committee member. Mr. Bernardo says that he chose to teach P.E. because he was a basketball player and because he loves working with children and teenagers.
Mr. Bernardo loves to play basketball, but he enjoys doing other things as well. Some of them are playing soccer, singing, playing the guitar and working out. He would like all parents and students to know that he is always open to a conversation.

Gustavo Dias Gustavo Dias, the middle school physical education teacher, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When he was 12 years old, he moved to Brasilia, and lived there for one year. After coming back to Rio, he finished school, and went to the State University of Rio de Janeiro. He graduated in physical education, and later on, took several courses on international soccer. Before coming to EARJ, he was a basketball coach at Fluminense’s club, and a personal trainer. Gustavo has worked at EARJ for 2 years. He is now a middle school P.E. teacher, the middle school soccer and futsal coach, the upper school assistant coach for futsal, and he is also does the Mountaineering Club for his Thursday activity. Gustavo chose to teach in this area because he enjoys working with sports. He thinks P.E can be an important tool when it comes to social skills, teamwork, and citizenship. Gustavo would like parents and students to know that students will always be challenged to improve in all kinds of skills including sports skills, social skills, and the ability to belong to a group by respecting each other’s space and being helpful. Gustavo enjoys reading books about physics and astronomy, traveling, and playing sports. He likes to be involved with teenagers because he likes to see someone’s best when it comes to teaching and learning. Gustavo definitely loves teaching.
