Overview
This activity consists of a guided web tour.You will visit specific web sites and will be asked to gather as much information as possible from each. It starts with a current event followed by research on weather conditions.
You will be graded on:
Your ability to use the internet effectively (20 points)
Your journal(50 points)
Invitation:
1)Paraphrazing the article with information that illustrates crazy weather (10pts)
2)Description of one day in your life you think the weather went crazy (5pts)
Exploration:
1)A weekend with family/friends weather prediction (10pts)
2)The weather elements data available in the site (5pts)
Explanation:
1) Explain what the El ninõ is, how it is formed, how often it occurs and the environmental impacts that may occur as a result to El ninõ (10pts)
2) Describe similarities and differences between the clouds in Jupiter and on Earth (4pts)
3) Describe two OTHER interesting facts you found in the site of the "Global Weather Machine" (2pts)
Bibliography
1)List the sources you used (1pt)
2)Sign your journal (1pt)

I will take points off if:
- Failure to use data in the metric system
- Failure to paraphrase and cut/paste is found in your work

Do you ever think that the weather is going crazy these days?
Well, you are not the only one.
Read the article linked below by clicking on the hyperlink.
Find some parts of the article that illustrates "Crazy weather" information and paraphrase it into your journal.
This will serve as a backbone of the journal you have to write to complete the weather web lesson.
The journal will consist of several parts which you will add to as you complete the lesson.
Also, see if you can think of an example of a day (not too long ago) in which the weather seemed crazy to you. Write a short description of this day in your journal and be sure to tell when it occurred.

Learn more about the weather!
Say your family was planning a short trip this coming weekend or imagine this were to happen in the near future.
Go to the weather channel web site linked below, and find out what the weather is going to be like on the weekend of your choice, be clear about the dates. Print this weather prediction and save it to your science folder
also be sure to write your prediction in your journal.
When trying to get the nformation do this:
Put the name of the city of your choice in the search box at the top of the page (careful with spelling).
Use the city`s map in motion to predict the weather conditions based on the motion of the clouds in the satellite picture. ALWAYS USE METRIC MEASUREMENTS!
Also, find other information about the weather in this city for this weekend at this web site, such as humidity, temperature and any other information available.
List all this information in your journal.

Explanation
Now lets go in for the deep stuff!
Read the explanation of how the ultimate crazy weather event, El Nino, is formed and write about it in your journal.
Visit the Global Weather Machine linked below and be sure to do all the activities it has reserved for you.
To do this, visit all the links this page has and view all the animations.
Pay special attention to the animation of warm weather on Jupiter.
It will help you understand how a hurricane is formed.
Compare in your journal the cloud patterns in Jupiter and on Earth.
Towards the end, you will be directed to another page entittled "Origins - Ground Zero". Check that out!

Find two pieces of information that you feel is interesting to you and, add to your journal the complete explanation of these two facts you have selected.

You are almost finished with your journal.

Spend sometime editing the final copy and print two copies and give the teacher one. Keep the other copy in your Science folder.
Use regular black fonts (Times New Roman; size 12).

DO NOT forget to put your name and the date on it!
