Ana Melo,

Visual Arts

Ms. Ana has been teaching art at EARJ for 13 years and has held the following positions: middle school visual art teacher, cross grade level team leader, CDC facilitator for the Fine Arts department, plus a lot of volunteer activities. She chose to teach art because she loves it and she thinks that it allows students to improve their thinking through a visual language, which is also an expressive way to show who you are. She also enjoys coordinating the Destination Imagination program school wide, which gives her the opportunity to get to know other students, parents, and teachers.

In her spare time, Ms. Ana loves to quilt, read, watch movies, and hang out with her friends. She feels that her class is such a special place, filled with creative energy, and where she spends a lot of her time. Therefore, she would like her students to feel comfortable with her and in art class.

Mr. Michael was born in Walton-on-Thames, in Surrey, England. He has lived in London, Colchester, São Paulo, and now in Rio de Janeiro. The college that he went to was the London College of Music in Southlands College (Surrey University). Mr. Michael’s college degrees are a graduate diploma in music and a post-graduate in education. Before coming to EARJ, he taught Peripatetic music in the UK, and music at two schools in São Paulo: St.Paul’s and St.Nicholas. Mr. Michael was also a free-lanced solo player and in a duo in São Paulo. Mr. Michael went back to the UK for a while, but because he missed Brazil so much, he decided to come back.

Mr. Michael worked at EARJ a few days last semester and a few weeks this year. Here at EARJ he holds a job as a Middle and Upper school band and choir teacher. He really loves playing music and being part of the arts, so that is why he chose to teach music. What parents and students should know about his class is that he will teach music for all abilities; it’s also a chance to enjoy playing instruments, to improve one’s skills, to know more about music in general, and to take part in group performances in the school community. He is also involved in the after-school band and choir classes at EARJ.

His hobbies and interests are scuba diving, hiking, rambling, traveling, cinema, reading, playing, singing, music, and playing football. He also enjoys spending time playing games with his sons. He loves going to museums as well.
