Welcome to the Upper School website of the Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro (EARJ). In the Upper School, we believe our students are our priority and our future. We strive to provide our students with the educational tools and interpersonal skills they will need to become leaders in our global society. If you have the opportunity to visit the Upper School you will notice a relaxed and friendly “Carioca” attitude on campus. But please don't be misled by our desire to enjoy our surroundings and each other, the Upper School is a focused college preparatory school where rigorous academics prevail and expectations are high. In order to best serve our multicultural student body, we offer three challenging diploma programs: American, Brazilian, and the International Baccalaureate (IB). These diploma programs prepare our students for success at top ranked universities throughout the world. In addition to a strong academic program, we encourage students to broaden their horizons outside the classroom. Time is set aside to provide students the opportunity to participate in a myriad of extracurricular activities. These range from athletics, music, student government, and Model UN, to community service, field trips to the Amazon and Pantanal, Panther Video Club, and much more!
