Upper School (Grades 6-12)

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

EARJ’s Middle School supports the beliefs of the National Middle School Association and has designed a program that reflects these beliefs.

EARJ is an IB Continuum School and is authorized to offer the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP is a student-centered approach to teaching and has been designed as a coherent and comprehensive curriculum framework that provides academic challenges and develops students’ life skills from the ages of 11 to 16 years old.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) started to be implemented in EARJ during 2022, with its full authorization in 2023.

High School (Grades 9-12)

Three diplomas are offered to meet the needs of an international student body in the High School: the U.S. Diploma which is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancedEd); a Brazilian Diploma; and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, recognized by colleges and universities throughout the world. All EARJ graduates receive a U.S. Diploma. Brazilian citizens must meet Brazilian diploma requirements. Students in 11th and 12th grades may complete the full IB DP diploma or take individual DP classes for certificates.

Assessment

The objective of assessment at EARJ is to monitor student learning, provide students with feedback on their progress, and prepare them for summative assessments that measure student learning throughout the year. Assessments are shaped by the philosophy that students should be given preliminary feedback on new skills and content prior to their evaluation on assessments that will form the quarter, semester, and year Grades in each course. This emphasis on meaningful feedback from the teacher in the learning process also shapes teaching practices at EARJ. Assessments at EARJ are created to meet learning goals set by skill and content standards agreed upon by each department.

Upper School Counseling

The counseling program supports and facilitates personal growth, self-esteem, and positive and healthy interpersonal relationships. In addition, the program helps students to grow in their understanding of themselves and their world and to become responsible adults. The program also includes the planning and monitoring of students’ academic programs and progress, assists students who experience personal difficulties, and stresses decision-making, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility. Counseling services include group and individual counseling, individual support with organization, support with course and class selections, and guidance lessons.

US Advisory Program

The EARJ Advisory Program has been created to meet the evolving needs of upper school students through a comprehensive curriculum while fostering a sense of community. Through our advisory program students are provided with a caring, adult advocate who supports a small group students in working together to solve common personal & school-related issues.  Our advisory program creates an atmosphere where students can express themselves, develop meaningful  peer relationships,  and feel a sense of community and belonging.

University Counseling

The High School University Counseling Program begins in Grade 9 and has been designed to support all students with the college and university process, through a holistic approach. We provide students with the necessary tools to be reflective, inquisitive, and open minded. Counselors assist students in choosing career paths and finding their own academic and personal strengths, while trying to match them to an university in which they will find success. The program and counselors also extensively support students in writing personal statements and/or college essays. Support is provided with their applications and scholarships opportunities to institutions worldwide.
