Computer

All high school students are required to take one semester of computers for graduation. A computer course taken in the school’s eighth grade may fulfill this requirement, but only if the student also demonstrates literacy on a high school computer proficiency exam. Furthermore, students are encouraged to take more computer courses so that they will be prepared for the increasing technological demands of our society.

603 INTERNET AND BROWSER BASICS (Semester Course)
This course will introduce the use of the Internet, present different browser, teach basic and advanced techniques for searching the Internet, explore online courses and discuss topics related to critical analysis of information.

609 WEBSITES FUNDAMENTALS (Semester Course)
This course teaches basic notions of Web design and HTML. Also included are the advanced notions of Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash. Students must be familiar with the Internet and browsers before taking this course.
Prerequisite: open to students who show proficiency in Internet use.

611 DESIGN FOR WEB APPLICATIONS (Semester Course)
This course teaches the communication and perception process as well as advanced concepts for planning and designing web pages.
Prerequisite: open to students who show proficiency in Internet use.

607 DESKTOP PUBLISHING (Semester Course)
Using Adobe PageMaker 6.5 and Photoshop 6.0, this course will teach students to create newsletters, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures using text and graphics layout techniques.

659 IB INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY (ITGS) STANDARD LEVEL
Grades 10-12

This course is a one-year standard level course of the IB program. Topics will include: individuals and machines, information systems in today’s society, problem solving, responsible use of information tools, impact of information technology on individuals and institutions, the evolution of technology and insights into the future.
Prerequisite: IB Office recommendation
