EARJ Model United Nations

Purpose

The purpose of Model United Nations is to better understand how the UN and its various committees operate. Through debate and student-written resolutions, we seek to gain a better perspective on the many issues affecting our world today.  In addition to our other goals, we aim to hone speaking, presentation, and discussion skills of the participating students.

Expectations

Each member is expected to come prepared to debate the issue at hand and fully participate in class discussion each session. To this end, every student chooses a country in the actual United Nations and must represent their assigned country in an accurate, dignified, and appropriate manner. Each student is responsible for writing and submitting at least one resolution per semester. The goal is to have each student attend at least one conference during the year to gain experience and insight into the MUN process and further develop the skills necessary to be an effective delegate, though this is not required.
