Upper School Exams

Semester Exams

Examinations are an integral part of students' educational experience as they prepare for further education at the university level. Examinations of approximately two hours in length are given to upper school students at the end of each semester. Semester examinations are cumulative and count 20% of a student's semester grade.

IB Exams

IB exams are administered in April (oral) and May (written), according to a schedule and strict guidelines dictated by the International Baccalaureate Organization. According to internally established guidelines, students who have Monday afternoon exams are expected to be in class when they are not sitting the examination. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students will be allowed to miss classes on the morning before an afternoon exam. Students with morning exams are to return to classes in the first full class period after their exam has finished.

Test Days

In an effort to maintain balance in students' work loads, EARJ has assigned specific test days to each subject area. Under this system, students should not have more than three major tests on any day. Test schedules are distributed at the beginning of each semester, and copies are available in the Upper School office.

Homework & Missed Work

> Homework: Homework is given regularly in all subjects. Assignments must be completed and submitted as directed by teachers. Homework assignments are designed to reinforce classroom instruction and to promote good study habits and skills. At the beginning of each semester teachers will inform students, in writing, of their homework policies. Occasional failure to complete assignments will be addressed by the teachers. However, repeated offenses will be reported to the Counselor, the Principal and the parents. Appropriate measures will be taken to correct the situation.

> Missed Work: The teacher will inform students in writing at the beginning of each semester about procedures regarding making up missed work. No work missed for any reason other than an excused absence, whether the work is an out-of-class assignment, an in-class assignment, a test, or a semester examination, can be made up. The student has full responsibility for contacting the teacher about completion of make-up work.
