Located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro is an international community offering a comprehensive education from Preschool through High School. With two campuses in Gávea and Barra da Tijuca, EARJ has stood as a beacon of academic excellence since its founding in 1937.

Academic Programs & Diplomas

EARJ is an IB World Continuum School, offering the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP), and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. EARJ has been an IB World School since 1982 and in 2023 received its IB Continuum School certification after a five-year process. This academic framework facilitates the development of empathy, resilience, and intellectual curiosity, preparing students to address complex global challenges. The IB curriculum at EARJ emphasizes personal development, ethics, and global awareness.

Students at EARJ also earn both the American and Brazilian Diplomas. The school’s curriculum, taught in English, provides an international perspective while adhering to Brazil's educational requirements. This combination equips graduates with the skills and qualifications to pursue opportunities both locally and internationally, preparing them for higher education worldwide.

Academic Outcomes & Global Reach

With an enrollment of over 1,300 students representing more than 50 nationalities, EARJ's educational program aims to develop global citizens. Graduates gain admission to universities across multiple continents, including institutions in North America, Europe, and Brazil. An alumni network spans various countries, providing potential connections for current students and graduates.
