Brazilian Independence Day Celebration

September 4, 2017

On Wednesday, September 6th, the EARJ Brazilian Department, organized an amazing celebration in honor of the Brazilian Independence Day.  Between both campuses, students, teachers and staff engaged in historical skits, singing popular Brazilian songs in a school-wide, green, yellow and blue celebration. The highlight of this amazing day was to see our multicultural students stand together and sing the Brazilian Anthem in an unique voice. Feliz Dia da Independência!

Class of ’87, 30 year Reunion!

July 6, 2017

The Class of 1987 granted EARJ the joy of reviving amazing memories this past Sunday, June 2, 2017.
In the event of their 30 year reunion, the ’87 Alumni spent their morning at the EARJ Gávea Campus with family and friends, virtually welcomed by Mr. Nigel Winnard, our new Head of School.
During this reunion, every step they took throughout campus triggered a new memory or story that was shared with laughter and joy. Amazement came with the discoveries of innovative learning spaces and modern academic curriculum as they re-discovered their beloved school.
Upon their arrival, they were surprised by a letter written 30 years ago by their beloved, former Head of School, Dr. Brown. In this letter Dr. Brown wrote*, “…Perhaps you are now reading this in the year 2017, or later, 30 years after you have completed the few moments, that one grain in the immensity of the sands of time of Rio beaches, we spent together… As I write this (…) I long to repeat the golden days we passed in unity of spirit and purpose. I can but wish you Godspeed on your journey. May you feel that EA has helped you as you go.” It was indeed a morning of laughters and remembrance.
On behalf of EARJ we would like to express our immense gratitude for YOU, EARJ Alumni Community. You are essential to our identity and we wish to see all of you “back” here on campus.
If you wish to schedule a Class visit or reunion, please contact alumni@earj.com.br.

Congratulations, Class of ’87!!

Battle of the Brains

June 2, 2017

Wednesday, May 24th the Gavea 8th grade students engaged in formal debates during the first annual Battle of the Brains. All debaters did extremely well, showing that they had worked hard to learn about their complex scientific issues and to prepare the best arguments for their side.  Students debated topics including tissue rights, CRISPR, and GMO’s.
This project based learning was the result of collaboration between the English and science departments, who worked together to build a 21st century learning experience for our talented and determined students.
